The Passage Art-Residency-Programme explores the Dübener Heide and Wittenberg regions through photography and film, highlighting its history, landscape and culture via funded, themed Artist-in-Residence stays.
With its integration into the KOBRA Cultural Network Wittenberg, the Passage Art-Residency-Programme is entering its next phase, running from 2025 to 2029: A total of ten Artist-in-Residence stays and five ‘Passage Shorts’ residencies are planned.

Chrystel Lebas
PASSAGE
In the summer of 2023, Chrystel Lebas explored the Dübener Heide region in Germany, focusing on the “Presseler Heidewald und Moorgebiet” nature reserve. She observed the changes caused by the drought and documented the gradual drying up of forests and moors through photographs and audio recordings of the regional wildlife.

PASSAGE
The artist documents moments with her children as a way of reflecting on her own childhood. Through artistic practice, this work gradually became a process of healing and responsibility, guiding her toward a consciously form of motherhood. During her stay as a Passage artist-in-residence, she was able to further develop and expand this work.

PASSAGE
In the 20th century, Bergwitz was a mining town. Its open-cast mine was closed down and flooded in 1955, creating what is now Lake Bergwitz. The start of a slow process of renaturation in the region. During his residency stay, the artist explored the history and present of the place through photographs, cyanotypes and archive material.
